Life Transitions
We will all be faced with challenges and transitions throughout the course of our lives. These may span the range from sudden and unexpected changes, such as a medical diagnosis or loss of a loved one, to anticipated transitions, such as getting married or retirement. Changes, even positive ones, can require considerable adjustment, and you may find yourself feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and confused. Therapy may help you develop additional skills to overcome adversity, increase your self-knowledge and awareness, and become more confident in your ability to handle life’s stressors.
Some of the more common life transitions I help patients navigate are:
- Returning to school or the work force after time away
- First job or beginning a career
- Relocation
- Getting married
- Breakup, separation, or divorce
- Parenting
- Job loss or major change in career
- Retirement
- Serious illness or disability
- Questioning/finding meaning or identity
